Stream Psychic Blood Alien EP (Stereogum Premiere)
As we’ve heard on advance tracks “Blur World” and “Waves Will Kill You,” Western Massachusetts trio Psychic Blood — short for Psychedelic Bloodbaths — are masters of violently noisy rock ‘n’ roll, the kind of music that sounds like a truck falling on a pile of instruments and carrying on into infinity. The group’s Alien 12″ is out this Friday, and it’s something you absolutely need to hear, six tracks of musclebound melodic static that hits like A Place To Bury Strangers jamming their fingers into a wall outlet. Or to put it another way, listening to Alien feels kind of like this:
A press release explains that the EP’s title is about estrangement from reality, not creatures from outer space:
Conceived from lost causes, sleepless nights, and a mysterious brush with death which landed guitarist/vocalist Jason Vachula in the hospital, Alien is less about extraterrestrial beings than it is about alienation from one’s own self and the surrounding world. However, at its core this is not a downer record, but rather a burst of energy; a celebration of the lost, the truly free.
Yeah, I can imagine a lot of people forging a connection over this music. Discover and delight in Psychic Blood below, where you can also find their September tour dates with ADVAETA.
