Preview Father John Misty’s “The Night Josh Tillman Came To Our Apartment” Video
Father John Misty’s sardonic 2012 debut (of sorts) Fear Fun cemented him as a sorcery-folk genius in my mind, possibly forever. His follow-up album this year, I Love You Honeybear, is a love letter in record form, and coming from such a jaded, notoriously cynical guy, it seemed even more worthy of attention. Having said that, “The Night Josh Tillman Came To Our Apartment” is probably the song on the record that I have the most trouble with. Its sole focus is mocking a certain type of girl, and although it’s clearly tongue-in-cheek, listening to it as a woman who has probably committed some of the sins he enumerates, it can be a little hard to stomach. The thing is a gorgeous, tinkling bit of baroque pop filled with clever one-liners, so I am still very drawn to it. Below, Josh Tillman has shared a brief clip previewing the video, in which he serenades himself in the bathtub with a rendition of “Silent Night.” Seems about right. Watch below.
