Frida – “I Know There’s Something Going On (Lindstrøm Remix)”
In 1982, the ABBA member Frida released the towering disco-rock banger “I Know There’s Something Going On,” with production, and titanic drums, from Phil Collins. The track didn’t really lead to a larger solo career for Frida, but it was a hit around the world, and it still stands as a glorious example of early-’80s studio craft. (Shout out to EMA for sampling those drums on Past Life Martyred Saints.) Pitchfork reports that, as part of a reissue of Frida’s album Something Going On, Frida’s fellow Scandinavian, the space-disco overlord Hans-Peter Lindstrøm, has remixed “I Know There’s Something Going On.” He’s given it the disco-edit tribute, stretching it out to eight and a half minutes and making sure the drums hit even harder. He’s also done a dub version of the same song, and you can hear both of them below.
The Something’s Going On limited-edition deluxe reissue is out 10/23 on Polar Music. Smalltown Supersound will also release both Lindstrøm remixes on the same day.
