Murals – “Violet City Lantern” Video (Stereogum Premiere)
Louisville chamber-pop band and Band To Watch alumni Murals delve into their own version of Alice In Wonderland in their new video of latest single, “Violet City Lantern,” their first release for Fire Talk Records. The video first follows the band jamming on ukuleles and acoustic guitars in a snug-looking ski lodge, before turning into a psychedelic, mystifying adventure where a smoky purple haze opens doors to otherworldly dimensions. A rabbit hole is traded for an entryway through a torn painting, ending with an explosive burst of pink and purple color that sees the band tearing down walls and barriers. An acid trip in visual form, the video mirrors the sorts of Pet Sounds-era hallucinogens that the track itself is dipped in. “Violet City Lantern” boasts slow, feel-good folk fit for those lazy summer evenings.
