Three Man Cannon – “Gold Or Silver” (Stereogum Premiere)
Three Man Cannon made the move to Philadelphia from their hometown of Scranton with their last album, Pretty Many People, and with that transition came a jump in style. Scrappy folk-punk gave way to more melodic, lushly-arranged pastures, and their next release, Will I Know You Then, sees them building on that foundation. “Gold Or Silver” comes smack-dab in the middle of their new record, and it’s a good jumping off point to get a feel for their cross-section of influences. It’s a knotty, densely-constructed track that evokes some country charm while still relishing in its indie-rock framework. Lead vocalist Matt Schimelfenig conveys tattered urgency as he wrestles with his desires and expectations: “Just because you want it doesn’t make it appear/ It’s not a perfect world, don’t forget that my dear/ You are not alone when you feel that way.” Listen below.
Will I Know You Then is out 11/6 via Lame-O Records. Physical and digital pre-orders available now.
