Kasbo – “World Away” (Stereogum Premiere)

ODESZA’s Foreign Family Collective is earning a reputation for curating the next wave of up and coming electronic artists. Back in April Harrison Mills and Clayton Knight’s label released Big Wild’s excellent tropicalia-infused “Aftergold.” For their fifth release in the series they’re putting out Kasbo’s “World Away,” and we’re premiering the new track from the 19-year-old Swedish producer born Carl Garsbo. It’s one of those lush, instrumental pieces of electronic melancholia that feels instantly familiar, liquid nostalgia siphoned into wordless, random vocal samples and clattering beats. The biggest compliment I can give “World Away” is that it reminds of Samo Sound Boy’s excellent solo album Begging Please. It’s got the same mix of old elegant house music and ambient “found sound” stippling that make the song feel like it comes with its own ecosystem intact. Listen below and check out Kasbo’s upcoming tour dates — he’s opening for ODESZA on their tour this fall, so you’ll likely hear a lot more about him in the coming months.

Here’s his fall tour dates with ODESZA:

10/30 New Orleans, LA @ The Joy Theater
10/31 Pomona, CA @ HARD Day of the Dead
11/03 Atlanta, GA @ Masquerade
