Adele – “Hello” Video
Just two days ago, Adele announced that the follow-up to her 2011 mega-blockbuster would be coming out soon. The new album is called 25, and it’s set to arrive next month. And this morning, we finally get to hear “Hello,” the album’s first single and Adele’s first new one since 2012’s “Skyfall.” It’s a grand, sweeping soul song, and it comes with a stately black-and-white video from director Xavier Dolan. Adele stars alongside Tristan Wilds, the actor who played Michael on seasons four and five of The Wire. On first listen, the song sounds pretty great. Check it out below. Also below, check out the tracklist for 25 and what Adele has to say about writing a song with Tobias Jesso Jr.

And as Pitchfork points out, during a recent Sirius XM interview with Jenny Eliscu, Adele mentions that she and Tobias Jesso Jr. co-wrote the song “When We Were Young”:
We wrote [“When We Were Young”] at the most insane house in LA, and we wrote it on Philip Glass’s piano, which is just insane. I would’ve been devastated if we left without a song for the record. [It’s] very ’70s, very ’70s singer-songwriter vibe, which I’m totally inspired by. Also that’s Tobias’s vibe as well, which is why I picked him. I fell in love with him because of his song “Hollywood.” “When We Were Young” is about being a lot older — it’s based in the future — and being at a party and seeing all your old groups of friends, or your old boyfriend, or your old teacher, someone who was really poignant in your life… And then you see each other and everything’s forgotten because so much time has passed. And you’re getting on great. And the lyric is, ‘Let me photograph you in this light.’… And it’s a beautiful song. And there’s a [backing vocal] in it that just makes me fall in a puddle every time.
Also, Billboard reports that 25 isn’t the only album Adele has worked on in the past four years. She tells BBC 1’s Nick Grimshaw, “I did write an album about being a mum but that’s pretty boring. I scrapped that.” Someone, please leak Adele’s motherhood album.
25 is out 11/20.
