For a time, I was scarily obsessed with “Variations,” a track from CTM’s 2013 debut EP of the same name. It’s the shining gem of Cæcilie Trier’s admittedly small recorded output, but that selection will become a little bigger in January when the Copenhagen artist releases a mini-album, the Lolita-inspired Suite For A Young Girl. Trier — who has kept busy over the past few years by working with Marching Church, the side project of Iceage’s Elias Bender Rønnenfelt, and the Choir Of Young Believers — has announced the new record today with “Cézanne,” a new track that isn’t as immediately engaging as anything on Variations, but has an appealingly warm and experimental quality to it.

“‘Cézanne’ is a mysterious car ride through a grey mist, with a dramatic scenography of midi strings, piano outbursts and a silent fellow passenger,” she explained to The Fader. “It comes from a suite of songs altogether forming a dramatic play on a backdrop of sound collages—patches of real life sounds, different musical styles ranging from the Bulgarian folk choir music, the classical impressionism, soul music etc. On top of this, a narrator leads you through the story [of Suite For A Young Girl], also with references to different works, for example Nabokov and Gertrude Stein.” Listen below.
