Psychedelic Furs/Ryan Adams/Nada Surf/Ramones associate Joe McGinty has a new “nouveau cabaret” band with Andrea Diaz of Superhuman Happiness. They’re calling themselves the Duchess And The Fox, and today we’re sharing their single “St. Vitus.” It’s a downcast chamber pop ballad that eventually blooms into synthetic splendor, matching McGinty’s piano parts with Diaz’s narration. “I wish that you could see only the best parts of my life,” she subtly emotes. It could almost work on Broadway if its sound and subject matter wasn’t so insular, but instead, think of it as Mercury Rev knocked off their space-age pedestal and back to Earth.

The Duchess And The Fox’s debut EP is due out in 2016.
