The thick, mucky air that makes up Kindling's sound might feel crushing, like it's weighing you down with its gravity, but its atmosphere isn't impossible to traverse. The four-piece from Massachusetts bring buzzsaw guitars and dense layers of fuzz into a melodic, occasionally buoyant realm, and manage to quench a thirst for ugliness and prettiness all at once. Between the searing, full-throttle thrust of "Blinding Wave" and the punishing weight behind "Painkiller," Galaxies is a gritty yet savory collection of shoegaze.
