Hear Kurt Cobain’s “Been A Son” Demo From Montage Of Heck: The Home Recordings
The accompanying soundtrack to Kurt Cobain: Montage Of Heck comes out next week, featuring a ton of unreleased recordings and demos from the Nirvana frontman that director Brett Morgen unearthed when researching his film. We’ve already heard a few selections from The Home Recordings so far, including “Sappy” and Beatles cover “And I Love Her,” and today Rolling Stone is sharing a 90-second demo of “Been A Son,” a track that also appeared on 1989’s Blew EP and the 1993 Incesticide compilation.
“I knew the spoken-word stuff [on the soundtrack] was all recorded at [ex-girlfriend] Tracy [Marander]’s apartment,” Morgen told Rolling Stone about his difficulties archiving the tracks in chronological order. “‘Been a Son’ was from that period as well. But Kurt did not date stuff. One of the things that made his journals complicated was he would go back and rewrite stuff. Even his journals were not necessarily chronological.” Listen to the demo below.
Montage Of Heck: The Home Recordings is out 11/13 via Universal.
