Watch Bruce Springsteen, Pharrell, Sia, Eric Church, Miguel, & More Perform At Concert For Progress On Race In America
Last night, A&E aired Shining A Light: A Concert for Progress On Race In America as a two-hour special. Taped at LA’s Shrine Auditorium on Wednesday, the all-star benefit show featured Pharrell performing his single “Freedom,” Sia covering Jimmy Cliff’s “Many Rivers To Cross,” Jill Scott performing “Strange Fruit,” and Nicki Minaj reading Maya Angelou’s poem “Still I Rise.” The event also saw some high-profile collaborations: Country star Eric Church led an impressive group including Smokey Robinson and Aloe Blacc on a rendition of “Kill A Word” off of his recent Album Of The Week Mr. Misunderstood, Miguel and Tori Kelly covered En Vogue’s “Free Your Mind,” and Bruce Springsteen teamed up with John Legend for “American Skin (41 Shots),” which he wrote about the 1999 police shooting of Amadou Diallo. The proceeds from the fundraiser will go to the Fund For Progress On Race In America through the United Way.
