Members Of The Hold Steady, Guided By Voices, Swans, Autre Ne Veut, & More Forming New Bands For Brooklyn Rock Lottery
The Brooklyn iteration of the Rock Lottery is returning for the sixth time this year, with everything is going down next month on 12/12 at the Knitting Factory. In case you need a refresher on how the roulette-style project works, or you never knew in the first place, here’s the premise all nice and laid out:
Twenty-five hand picked musicians meet at 10:00AM at Knitting Factory. These volunteer participants are organized into five groups through a lottery-based chance selection. The five separate groups are then released to practice at different locations throughout the neighborhood. The musicians have twelve hours to create a band name and three to five songs (with a one cover-song limit). The groups will then perform what they have created that evening in front of a waiting audience.
This year’s participants include members of the Hold Steady, Guided By Voices, Swans, Autre Ne Veut, Unlocking The Truth, Moon Hooch, Tokyo Police Club, Weeknight, The Rapture, and Hurray for the Riff Raff.
Proceeds from the Rock Lottery this year will be donated to Daniel’s Music Foundation. Tickets for the event are on sale now.
