John Legend Duets With An Actual Star Or Something
John Legend has collaborated with stars like Bruce Springsteen and Kanye West, but for his latest track, he decided to take things in a more literal direction and team up with an actual star — you know, one of those glowing balls of gas in the sky. As MTV reports, his new single “Under The Stars,” written for beer company Stella Artois’s Give Beautifully holiday campaign, features the sounds of stars, uh, doing something. Honestly, I don’t really get it, but here’s how John Legend explains things in a behind-the-scenes clip: “Scientists are able to record the sounds of the vibrations that they make. Star is the translation for Stella, so for the holiday season, Stella Artois and I came together to give a gift, a song that’s inspired by the stars. In this song, we’re hearing the noises that stars make.” OK!
The song is “all about uniting people all around the world together under the stars,” as Legend told People magazine. “I’m in the business of trying to find things that are great sonically, anyway. So it wasn’t that difficult to translate that into listening to star sounds. We do the same thing when it comes to drum or keyboard sounds. Either way, you try to create a beautiful record and incorporate those sounds. I’d definitely consider using stars again in the future.” Check it out below.
