CTM – “Return Of The Hunters” (Stereogum Premiere)
Though CTM’s 2013 debut EP Variations was filled with pitch-perfect, ornate orchestral pop songs, Cæcilie Trier’s ambitions have shifted in the time since then. Her followup effort, the 8-track Suite For A Young Girl, largely leans into her classical influences, more in her line of work as the cellist in Choir Of Young Believers. In October, she shared the warm lead single “Cézanne,” and today we’re revealing the opening composition, “Return Of The Hunters.” It begins sumptuous and sparse, but gently tiptoes towards a pounding, bloodrush of an ending that makes you understand why the track is named after the hunt.
“I thought of my making of Suite for a Young Girl as making a movie, or a storyline for a movie,” Trier explained of the project as a whole in a press release. “Some short scenes, some long, different scenographies or interiors, landscapes to look at and to drive through, the different textures of the midi and the sculptural acoustic classical instrument.” It’s only a small taste, but “Return Of The Hunters” sets the scene well.
