Shut Up, Dude: This Week’s Best And Worst Comments
We made some changes to Stereogum’s community tools yesterday. Our new real-time AJAX commenting system means the page won’t jump around when you click “reply,” and will load faster on mobile. Also all of a post’s comments will display on a single page, so you won’t have to click through 10 pages on popular topics. Comments may still be a little buggy today, but we’re working on it. Can we all be honest? The best part about this list is that it’s not a fucking slideshow. |

There was a thread maybe a year ago about some Radiohead milestone, someone wrote a really inspiring bit about how their music pulled them through some strange times in their life. I’ve been WAITING to lay it down here in continuation of that tradition. The great part about these lists, I think, is that they introduce you to a lot of music that might have fallen through the cracks throughout the year. The terrible part is they seem to marginalize music that someone might feel really strongly about, siphoning it down into some bizarre list format. I see Kurt Vile – I B’lieve I’m Goin Down at the bottom of the pile here and I’ve got to give it some love. This has been a confusing year for me. I’ve lived in three different countries, reconnected with a lot of people I haven’t seen for a long time, sat in front of job applications for daaaaays on end, often wandered through the woods to collect my thoughts, stood around at rock shows and felt like I’m much older than everyone else in the audience, and ultimately somehow chosen to live and work in the most crowded, mesmerizing, filthiest, straight-to-the-jugular city on earth. Sometimes I feel that I’ve made decisions by just blindfolding myself and hurling darts at a wall. I’m often asked the question “what brings you here?” “what’s next?” and I never feel like I have a solid answer. I really have no idea! How does anyone end up anywhere? There is some freedom in this, surrendering yourself to the indifference of the universe, but it can also be very confusing. Listening to B’lieve I’m Going Down has brought new meaning to my day to day life. It’s not a particular song or sound, it’s just Kurt’s attitude throughout. “I woke up this morning, didn’t recognize the man in the mirror.” I mean, I feel like I’ve heard that line one million times before, but when he sings it it’s hilarious and terrifying at the same time. The fog of life that euthanizes the best of us as we get older. Treading the line between playful and batshit crazy when talking to yourself. Finding the answers to wild questions in simplicity rather than long diatribes. Kurt embraces all this with ease. Or maybe he doesn’t, maybe I just think he does because it serves a purpose for me, but either way the album’s carried me through some weird times, smiling and bobbing my head all the while. My AOTY. Hope others got the same inspiration from it that I did. |

The level of ignorance on this article is cringe worthy. First of all: have you ever heard of the use of pseudonyms? It is used in punk rock extensively. Something tells me you’ve never heard of punk, for w/e reason. Perhaps if you were more educated in music you’d know this? That debunks you’re whole suspicious bullshit claim. Secondly: why only quote negative tweets? while completely ignoring any positive tweets? It sounds like you have an agenda to play out. And i think it is blatantly clear what that is. This entire article and comments are sus as f*ck. |

So you guys post about every little thing Ryan Adams does down to what he had for breakfast, and yet won’t include 1989? It was incredible, and at the very least should have been towards the bottom of the list. |
