EERA – “Drive With Fear” (Stereogum Premiere)
Norwegian-born, UK-based EERA has an EP coming soon on House Arrest Records. Its lead single, the creeping ballad “Drive With Fear,” finds her processing dark, despairing emotions via images of Drøbak, the seaside fishing town where she grew up, “where others bleed with colors made of stone and rivers left alone.” The musical accompaniment rises like mist from a bleary cliffside. EERA pairs her narration with an eerie, magisterial folk-rock sound that could pass for an extraterrestrial Sharon Van Etten. I could keep listing reference points, but EERA strikes me as the kind of artist who has already carved out a sound of her own. Listen to her tender, haunting new single right away.
The EERA EP is out 3/4 on House Arrest. Pre-order it from Rough Trade in the UK, Amazon in the US, or iTunes worldwide. The physical version is limited to 500 copies — 350 on black vinyl and 150 on see-through vinyl. The see-through vinyl is only available from the House Arrest store.
