Boston psych-rock wanderlusters Quilt teased their upcoming full-length Plaza late last year with lead single “Eliot St.” Today, via The FADER, they drop the followup “Roller.” Quilt recently added a member, growing from a trio to a quartet, and the influx of new personnel seems to have added some serious polish to their sound and swagger to their unguided step. The warped guitar grooves, weird sweeps, and (yes!) cowbells are a wonderful but discordant backdrop for Anna Fox Rochinski’s venting of frustrations trying to maintain relationships as a wanderer by nature. You can feel her slip away as she sings, “Honey, I’m a roller underneath the coals that hide me when it’s raining/ How can you believe that everyone you meet is just here to entertain you?” Plaza is sounding quite lovely right about now.
