Chris Stapleton & Adam Driver Together At Last In This Week’s SNL Promos
Bearded mountain-man Chris Stapleton, who dominated at the CMAs and emerged as one of country music’s breakout stars last year, is making his SNL debut this weekend as the show’s first musical guest of 2016. The episode will be hosted by Girls star/Star Wars villain Adam Driver, and yesterday a few promos came out featuring just Driver and SNL cast member Kate McKinnon hanging out at a diner. (It should be noted that these promos were way better than the usual awkward, unfunny promos, which bodes well for the actual episode.) Now, SNL has put out a few more promos that include Chris Stapleton, who mostly just kind of stands there while SNL’s Aidy Bryant cracks jokes about Star Wars. (Ah, there’s the usual awkwardness.) Watch below.
It’s also worth noting that Stapleton’s burly beardedness grants him some resemblance to Han Solo’s legendarily fuzzy buddy Chewbacca, which the country star has himself noted:
Personally, I’m just hoping Adam Driver pops up during Stapleton’s performance as the Jewish cowboy he played in Inside Llewyn Davis to provide some “Please Mr. Kennedy“-style backing vocals.
