Shamir – “Who Will Save Your Soul?” (Jewel Cover)
Shamir performed an acoustic cover of Jewel’s “Who Will Save Your Soul?” on yesterday’s episode of The Strombo Show, a radio segment that airs on Canada’s CBC network. Shamir also played his own song “In For The Kill” and Alexz Johnson’s “Ruthless Love.” Shamir has covered Kacey Musgraves and Miranda Lambert in the past, and we know he has an affinity for country-tinged pop music. The Las Vegas-based singer told his hosts that he’s been performing Jewel’s song for awhile:
I got my first guitar when I was nine… It felt really comfortably to play this way, I’m not even left handed… I had no idea, that’s just how I taught myself and it is very convenient to play this way and write lyrics…
My first time that I played in public was my middle school talent show and I played “Who Will Save Your Soul?” by Jewel… I remember the guitar teacher or the music teacher freaking out obviously, we had a guitar program and I was one of few kids in my school that didn’t know how to play guitar… My principal at the time played guitar and came up to me: Who taught you to play like that? And I was like, me?
