Southern California garage punks Audacity are gearing up to release their new full-length Hyper Vessels this spring, and the lead single “Dirty Boy” is like a flush punch in the mouth to start a fight. The song leans toward the proto-punk of Death and the Velvet Undergound with high-energy, interlocking guitar rhythms galore and rolling drum transitions. It sticks to punk ideals as well, soaked in sarcasm with plenty of tongue-in-cheek lyrics. The apology in the hook reeks of insincerity in the best way, especially coming at you in the context of harmonic wails. Audacity’s Kyle Gibson had this to say to The FADER about the track: “It’s a take on the sentiment ‘nice guys finish last,’ except the guys aren’t necessarily nice and they might not end up finishing at all.” I’d say they hit their mark.
