The 5 Best Videos Of The Week
Those of us on the East Coast are about to spend the weekend buried in snow, scared to leave our domicile because nobody knows how to drive in a blizzard and we know we’ll get run over the instant our feet touch the sidewalk. So it’s nice that the music world made a lot of good videos this week, if only so we’ll have something to look at other than the unrelenting squall of white outside our windows. Five of them are below.
5. Beirut – “Perth” (Dir. Clara Aranovich)
Right now, I wish I could use the power of dance and the magic of split-screen effects to time-travel out of this fucking blizzard. So this video will have to qualify as wish fulfillment.
4. Valentino Khan – “Deep Down Low” (Dir. Ian Pons Jewell)
The first time I dropped acid, I was in ninth grade, and I went through something similar to what this guy goes through in this video. I never did it again, and watching this video is as close as I will come.
3. Youth Lagoon – “Rotten Human” (Dir. Patrick Blades)
So many videos go for the “I don’t know what that was but I can’t take my eyes away” effect. So few of them get there. This one gets there.
2. Point Point – “Life In Grey” (Dir. Jodeb)
You wait and you wait for this one to turn dark, and they holy shit, does it ever.
1. Grimes – “Kill V. Maim” (Dir. Jodeb)
How can I apply to join the Grimes friend gang? I’ll wear whatever; I don’t even care.
