Hard Girls – “Dulcet Tones” (Stereogum Premiere)
“Dulcet Tones” is built around huge, uplifting chords, but the words contained within sound indecisive, reluctant: “I heard those dulcet tones ring out in the coming gloaming of the evening/ You said they sound like home, but I don’t know…” Hard Girls — the San Jose band made up of members from Shinobu and Pteradon — have been putting out similarly barn-burning and bold punk songs for years now, first over the course of a few EPs and then on 2012’s Isn’t It Worse and 2014’s A Thousand Surfaces. They’ll be heading into the studio to record a new album later this year, but for now they’re sharing a demo of “Dulcet Tones” and two other tracks, out now on a digital EP via Jeff Rosenstock’s Quote Quote Unquote Records.
