Kill J – “Trickle Trickle” (Stereogum Premiere)
Danish mastermind Kill J has been putting out pitch-perfect icy pop songs for a few years now, with last year’s “You’re Good But I’m Better” and “Propaganda” standing among her best works yet. “Trickle Trickle” is another valuable addition to her blossoming oeuvre, an austere and understated number centered around plush beats and Kill J’s vaporous voice. It continues the masochistic streak that’s present on some of her other tracks — “I really hate the way you bleed me/ Baby, I love the way you hurt me,” she sings on a particularly dark note — and combines that with an amorphous, indefinable sense of hope and longing. Listen below.
Kill J will make her live U.S. debut at SXSW this year, and more U.S. shows are on the way.
