Roots Picnic 2016 Lineup
The Roots have been brining their very own Roots Picnic festival to their Philadelphia hometown every year since 2008, and they just announced the lineup for this year’s show, which goes down 6/4 at Philly’s Festival Pier. This time around, they got R&B superstar Usher to headline, and the Roots will be backing him up (and playing their own set), which should be very cool to see. And in that sub-headliner category, they also got Future and Leon Bridges, two very different artists who both have great live shows. The rest of the bill is a lot more rap-heavy than usual, and it reflects the Roots’ tastes rather than the usual festival-programmer inertia. Blood Orange, Kehlani, Kaytranada, Swizz Beatz, DMX, Jidenna, Ibeyi, Metro Boomin, Migos, Anderson .Paak, Willow Smith, and Lil Uzi Vert will all perform. And as Pitchfork points out, they announced the lineup with a video from Broad City stars and creators Ilana Glazer and Abbi Jacobson; check it out below.
