The 5 Best Videos Of The Week

We’re two days removed from the Super Bowl and — more importantly, at least for the purposes of this column — the Super Bowl halftime show, in which many, many people will work very hard to make a terrible, corny spectacle happen. The halftime show will doubtless be more explosive and brain-searing than all of this week’s videos put together, so let’s enjoy their small pleasures while we can, before we all get our eyeballs seared. This week’s picks are below.

5. Mr. Oizo – “Hand In The Fire” (Feat. Charli XCX) (Dir. Meat Dept.)

The puppetry equivalent of that Seinfeld story arc where Jerry falls in love with Janeane Garofalo when the two of them realize that they’re exactly alike.

4. FIDLAR – “Why Generation” (Dir. Ryan Baxley)

Speaking as a person who never uses emojis, this is the most I have ever enjoyed emojis.

3. Vince Staples – “Lift Me Up” (Dir. David Helman & Dustin Lane)

Staples has emerged as one of the greatest music-video artists of the moment. And while his levitating-bodies image doesn’t hit as hard as what you’ll see in some of his recent videos, it’ll still stick with you.

2. Baio – “The Names” (Dir. Christopher Baio)

This video could’ve been made at any time in the last 35 years. That’s a good thing.

1. Towkio – “Clean Up” (Feat. Chance The Rapper) (Dir. [LL])

I have endless envy for anyone who can do those hyper-complicated lightspeed footwork dances while maintaining an exquisitely bored facial expression.
