Public Memory – “Zig Zag”
Public Memory are ready to drop their debut, Wuthering Drum, in a little over a month. They’ve already shared the lead single, “Lunar,” and the followup, “Ringleader.” Their latest single is “Zig Zag,” and it’s a penetrating, low-end-heavy jaunt. A menacing, churning bass line and 808 drums anchor the track in its deep, deep depths as higher synths and ambient sweeps come in to balance with vocals mimicking the acoustic reverb of a cathedral floating above. The melodic vocals take on a hymnal-esque quality, adding to the gravity of the song and the hefty skulking of the low-end-dominant mix. As dark and brooding as the song is, it still has a catchy, danceable rhythm. There are a lot moving parts on this one, but it’s so balanced and streamlined that it’s hard not to appreciate. Listen.
“Zig Zag” is out 3/18 on Felte. Pre-order is available here.
