Jennifer O’Connor – “Black Sky Blanket”
Placing warm and raspy vocals over a downtempo arrangement of melancholy strings, Jennifer O’Connor’s new single, “Black Sky Blanket,” almost comes off as a female fronted Sparklehorse. However, the song’s cleaner, minimalistic verses ride on slightly twangy acoustic guitars that set it a apart while defining an arc that prevents its super-slow tempo from becoming a trudge. This, on top of the genuine and evocative nature of O’Connor’s lyrics, put this song in a nostalgic and slow-burning league of its own. Listen.
