Roger Daltrey – “Let My Love Open The Door” (Pete Townshend Cover)
The Who’s Pete Townshend released “Let My Love Open The Door,” a solo single that would become a classic-rock radio staple, in 1980. Now, 36 years later, Roger Daltrey, Townshend’s bandmate in the Who has recorded his own version of the song, and he’s done it for a good cause. As the Who’s website points out, Daltrey’s version of the song is a benefit for Teen Cancer America, a nonprofit that he and Townshend helped to found. It’s a grizzled, mostly-acoustic take on the song. You can hear it here and download it at iTunes.
And in other Who news, the band will perform on The Tonight Show next Friday. It’ll be their first appearance on a late-night U.S. talk show since they played The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour in 1967.
