Today, the 83-year-old country music eminence Loretta Lynn releases Full Circle, her first studio album since 2004’s Jack White-produced Van Lear Rose. And last night, she brought her regal presence to The Tonight Show to sing “Everything It Takes,” a song that features Elvis Costello in its on-record version. Singing in front of her band, Lynn brought a casual charm, the sort of thing that served her well for decades on Nashville variety shows and Southern radio broadcasts. She knows what she’s doing.
