Kyson – “You” Video (Stereogum Premiere)
Berlin-based electronic artist Kyson will follow up 2013’s The Water’s Way with a new album called A Book Of Flying this spring. This new album, however, veers in an entirely different direction from his previous dance-inducing sound. Though he continues to employ forward-thinking arrangements and sleek electronic elements, Kyson has added a dream-like folk motif to his most recent work. The drifting vocals and gentle acoustic guitar patterns of his newest work could almost pass for José González.
It’s intriguing to hear a sound like this affiliated with Friends Of Friends, the LA electronic label affiliated with such acts as Shlohmo, Tomas Barfod, and Jerome LOL. The new direction is perhaps best illustrated in Kyson’s music video for A Book of Flying single “You.” Whether due to his character’s more natural surroundings or the way in which their masks lend a sense of mystery, the artist has no doubt summed up the illusive, yet distinctly human nature of his newest work. Michael Williamson directs. Watch below.
A Book of Flying is out 4/1 via Friends Of Friends. Pre-order it here.
