Patio – “Arbitrary Numbers” (Stereogum Premiere)
Brooklyn trio Patio consists of Lindsey-Paige McCloy, Loren DiBlasi, and Alice Suh. They make a groovy, rhythmic brand of indie pop driven by infectious bass lines and cleverly syncopated drums. Their debut EP, Luxury, is a deceptively piercing collection of five songs because it’s very easy to get lost in the grooves and gloss over simple but penetrating lyrics and beautiful harmonies. The first single from the EP is “Arbitrary Numbers” and it’s a good indication of Patio’s sound. DiBlasi’s bass line helms the track, Suh’s drums punctuate sharply, and McCloy’s melodic, subdued vocals are cloaked in the rhythms, but cut through the noise with keen, understated contemplation. I’m going to have this song stuck in my head for the rest of the day. Check it out.
