Open Mike Eagle & Paul White – “I Went Outside Today” (Feat. Aesop Rock)
LA spitter Open Mike Eagle has been in full promo mode for this week’s drop of Hella Personal Film Festival. He’s already shared a couple doses of dope with the lead single “Check To Check” and opener “Admitting The Endorphin Addiction.”
Today he’s come with one last sneak peek in “I Went Outside Today” featuring underground veteran stalwart Aesop Rock. Mike is clearly a lyrical dude, but he dispenses with hooks altogether for this one. He kicks off the festivities with a tongue-twisting verse well beyond the standard 16 bars, and then Aes comes in and spits some of the dexterous rhymes he’s known for over Paul White’s soulful, minimal, sample-driven beat helmed by triumphant horns. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: Open Mike Eagle is nice. It’s a shame dude had to DJ for himself at SXSW, but I’m glad Hannibal Burress know’s what’s up. Do your ears a favor and peep “I Went Outside Today.”
Hella Personal Film Festival is out 3/15 on Mello Music Group. Pre-order is available here.
