Drake – “Controlla” (Feat. Popcaan) + Babeo Baggins – “Things I Forgot To Do” (Nico Cover) (Feat. Drake)
We still know basically nothing about Drake’s new album Views From The 6 beyond the promise that it’s coming in April. But we do have two new Drake tracks today via Noisey, and they’re extremely fascinating whether or not they make it on the record.
There’s a Popcaan collaboration called “Controlla,” which is basically classic Drake with a Caribbean flair. Perhaps he’s riding the wave of “Work,” his six-week #1 hit with Rihanna? More importantly, he covered motherfucking “These Days” — yes, the mournful Jackson Browne all-timer introduced to my generation when Wes Anderson put Nico’s version in The Royal Tenenbaums. The song’s wistful lyrical content is a perfect match for Drake, and even if this is one of the least essential versions of “These Days” out there, it’s still amazing that it exists at all.

UPDATE: Dazed reports that the “These Days” cover is a demo for what eventually became a collaboration with Barf Troop’s Babeo Baggins. The two artists recorded it for a covers EP called Love Songs For Tough Guys that was originally scheduled for release this May. Baggins offered some context:
Drake is a friend of mine. “These Days” is my favorite song in the world and I showed him the song because he had never heard it. He connected with it, which explains us doing the cover.
In light of the leak, Baggins has put the final version of the song online. It’s retitled “Things I Forgot To Do.” Check it out below.
