Last month, veteran French house duo Cassius released their first new song in six years, the Cat Power/Mike D collab “Action.” As it turns out, that was the first single from Ibifornia, their first album in a full decade. The title is based on a combination of Ibiza and California, and according to the duo, it’s an imaginary land that exists “inside every one of us.” Sure! The album features Cat Power’s vocals on three songs, which is a bit of a surprise even when you consider that Zdar, one half of the duo, produced Cat Power’s album Sun. And with that announcement, they’ve shared two new album tracks, both of them bright and happy and Basement Jaxx-esque. “Go Up” pairs Cat Power with Pharrell, and somehow they seem to be a natural fit for one another, something I wouldn’t have thought possible 15 years ago. Meanwhile, album opener “The Missing” features OneRepublic frontman/pop balladeer-for-hire Ryan Tedder and dance singer Jaw. Below, listen to both new tracks and check out the album’s tracklist.
