Watch John Cale Play The Velvet Underground & Nico With Animal Collective, The Libertines, & Mark Lanegan
Multi-instrumentalist, former Velvet Underground member, and art-rock elder statesman John Cale performed the entirety of VU’s seminal debut The Velvet Underground & Nico tonight at the Philharmonie de Paris in France. Cale performed the album’s tracks in random order with a few songs from White Light/White Heat thrown in for good measure, and he was joined by a whole host of special guests: Animal Collective (who featured Cale on Painting With’s “Hocus Pocus”), the Libertines’ Pete Doherty and Carl Barât, Mark Lanegan, Étienne Daho, Lou Doillon, and Lemon Jelly’s Nick Franglen.
