Nite Jewel – “Boo Hoo”
Nite Jewel has been busy as one half of AMTHST with producer/rapper Droop-E, singing over Hyphy-tinged, synth-laden beats. But Ramona Gonzalez is back solo today with the gloomy, atmospheric electro-pop she’s known for. “Boo Hoo” is the first offering from her newly announced full-length Liquid Cool. Ominous synths layers and big drums drive the beat as Gonzalez’s vocals wistfully float above. Dance breaks with light cooing break apart heavy sections with deceptively piercing lyrics and ease into the insanely catchy hook. Gonzalez is at her darkest on this track, but her delicate vocals balance the melancholy well. It seems the album will dwell in the shadows as Gonzalez had this to say about it: “Liquid Cool explores the theme of aloneness in a crowded and disconnected world… I put all my gear—including my 8 track—in a walk-in closet. I had left my label and was back in my element. I felt like I had found my identity again.” Listen to “Boo Hoo” below.
