Bob Dylan – “Melancholy Mood”

Bob Dylan – “Melancholy Mood”

Last month, we reported that Bob Dylan was planning to head out on a big American tour this summer, and that it would be in support of a new album, Dylan’s follow-up to last year’s Shadows In The Night. And like Shadows In The Night, the new album Fallen Angels will be a collection of Dylan’s interpretations of songs that Frank Sinatra made famous, which remains a perfectly perverse thing for Bob Dylan to make. Dylan has now unveiled all the details of Fallen Angels, and he’s also shared its first single. It’s his version of “Melancholy Mood,” a song that Sinatra recorded with Harry James and his orchestra way back in 1939. (It was the B-side to “From The Bottom Of My Heart,” Sinatra’s first-ever single.) Dylan’s take on “Melancholy Mood” is effectively dour and downbeat, a gracefully sozzled shrug from an old barfly. Below, listen to Dylan’s version of the song and check out the new album’s tracklist.
