Two years ago, the Pittsburgh mash-up monster Girl Talk and the veteran Philadelphia street-rapper Freeway teamed up for Broken Ankles, a shockingly strong EP-length mixtape. You might not expect these two to be able to find any middle ground, but the tape was fun as hell, and their chemistry was strong. These days, Freeway, who is recovering from kidney disease, is getting ready to release a new solo album called Free Will. And as Pitchfork points out, he brought Girl Talk in to produce the big, honking banger “First Things First,” a song that gets its hook from Free’s classic verse on Jay-Z’s “1-900-HUSTLER.” Listen to “First Things First” below.
