Legendary Minneapolis Venue First Avenue Is Hosting An All-Night Prince Dance Party
Legendary Minneapolis venue First Avenue, which hosted many Prince concerts over the years and was immortalized as the setting for much of 1984’s iconic film Purple Rain, has announced that it will be holding an all-night dance party in tribute to Prince’s recent passing. The local City Pages reports that DJs Mike 2600, DJ Jake Rudh, and DJ Espada will play Prince tracks all night long.
“Our hearts are broken. Prince was the Patron Saint of First Avenue. He grew up on this stage, and then commanded it, and he united our city,” the venue posted on Facebook earlier today. “It is difficult to put into words the impact his death will have on the entire music community, and the world. As the tragic news sinks in, our thoughts are with Prince’s family, friends, and fans. We deeply mourn the loss of our friend, a true star.Rest in peace and power Prince.”
The dance party will start at 11PM and is 18+. There is no cover.
Fans have been leaving flowers at the venue throughout the day:
Fans have also gathered at Prince’s Paisley Park studio to pay their respects:
