Hear Sonic Youth’s “Theme With Noise” From Unearthed Spinhead Sessions
After releasing EVOL in 1986, Sonic Youth began working on the score for Ken Friedman’s 1987 film Made In U.S.A., which was eventually released as a soundtrack album in 1995. But before they had finalized the score, as BrooklynVegan reports, the band recorded several rehearsal sessions of music that didn’t end up in the film. Those sessions are finally being released in June as Spinhead Sessions, named for the studio where they were recorded. The album is entirely instrumental, described by Thurston Moore as “spindly, twisting rhythms and quiet rushes of noise and melody,” and you can hear one spindly, twisting track, “Theme With Noise,” below.
Tracklist:
01 Ambient Guitar & Dreamy Theme
02 Theme With Noise
03 High Mesa
04 Unknown Theme
05 Wolf
06 Scalping
07 Theme 1 Take 4
Spinhead Sessions is out June 17 via Goofin’. Pre-order it here.
