Prince’s Backing Band The Revolution To Reunite For Tribute Shows
Prince had a few different backing bands in his life, but the most iconic of them will always be the Revolution. Prince put together the first version of the band in 1979, though they didn’t get their name until 1982. They backed Prince up until he dissolved them in 1986, which means they were all in Purple Rain, and a few of them had major character arcs. In the wake of Prince’s passing last week, they’ve been spending time with one another again, and now they’ve announced that they’ll be performing together again sometime soon. Check out the Facebook announcement video below.
No mere band can hope to recreate Prince’s singular magic, but if anyone is going to try, it should be these guys.
UPDATE: The Revolution — featuring Dez Dickerson and André Cymose alongside original members Wendy Melvoin, Lisa Coleman, Bobby Z., Brown Mark, and Matt Fink — have confirmed a pair reunion shows, to take place at Minneapolis’ First Avenue Mailroom in September. Tickets are on sale this Friday. Check out the dates and the poster for the reunion shows below.
