Anna Meredith – “Something Helpful” Video
Scottish composer and indie pop singer-songwriter Anna Meredith makes joyful, bubbly jaunts that are as delicate as they are infectious. She recently released her latest full-length offering, Varmints, and it’s simply a delight. Her voice floats wispily over bell tings, xylophone, and bright, airy synths on one of the standout tracks, “Something Helpful.” Today, with director Jonny Sanders, she’s applied a visual treatment of playful figures reminiscent of a shapes and colors chart you would find in a preschool or kindergarden classroom. The crude figures perform repetitive actions as a balloon floats through the frame before a dog makes everything fall apart and the balloon finally finds an owner in need of a pick-me-up. It’s simple, jubilant, and subtly amusing. Watch.
Varmints is out now.
