Stream Chloe X Halle Sugar Symphony EP
Beyoncé’s Parkwood Entertainment underlings Chloe and Halle Bailey have risen very quickly, as expected with Bey as a mentor and co-signer. The ATLien alt-R&B duo signed to Parkwood after their cover of Bey’s “Pretty Hurts” broke YouTube in 2013. They’ve already performed at the White House at 16 and 17-years-old respectively, and they showed their rapid, newfound success was warranted with their debut single, “Drop.” Today, we receive their first collection of songs in the five-track Sugar Symphony EP via Billboard.
Sugar Symphony is aptly named. The EP drizzles sweet flourishes and beautifully controlled vocals over varied soundscapes melding classical, trap, traditional R&B, neo-soul, and electro, all delivered with a pop sensibility. “Thunder” is a slow building 808-dipped jam that careens into full-on dance electronica. “Lazy Love” is a bouncy, playful synth-soaked jaunt with a undeniably infectious hook about the appeal of an effortless romantic connection. “Fall” is rooted in classical tendencies, slowly paced and gorgeous. Something tells me Sugar Symphony is going to be like a 25-cent gumball: Its strong flavor will quickly leave you wanting more once these five songs have been on repeat for days. I can’t wait for a full-length project from the Bailey sisters; in the meantime, check out Sugar Symphony below.
