Ryan Hemsworth – “How It Felt”
Ryan Hemsworth has been very active since 2014’s excellent Alone For The First Time. He’s been featured on a couple of compilations, collaborated with Seattle-based producer Lucas on the slept-on Talking Flight EP, and dropped a few remixes. But he hasn’t dropped any solo material since last year’s one-off single “Afterglow” — until today, that is.
The inventive Canadian producer has shared a new track called “How It Felt.” It reminds me of a ride on Coney Island’s Cyclone, the famed NYC roller coaster. It’s smooth in spots, chaotic in others, but consistently engaging in its various soundscapes. The beat effortlessly glides through classical, electro, triumphant big band, trap-y drums, and vocal samples, never settling into one sound, constantly interrupted with quirky, unorthodox interjections. Hopefully this will surface on a collection of songs in the near future, but there’s enough going on in this one romp to hold us over for quite some time. Listen.
