Daily Deal: Add HBO’s Vinyl To Your Collection
The ’70s music scene was nothing less than a total explosion of new genres––we were blessed with the birth of disco, hip hop, and punk rock all in the same decade. The recent hit HBO television series Vinyl digs into that music industry of the time, riddled with drugs, egos, and busted eardrums. Bobby Cannavale (Emmy winner for another HBO smash, Boardwalk Empire) stars as a record label executive out for fresh blood and talent, trying to keep both his company and personal life from total collapse.
Admittedly, not everyone had the warmest response to Vinyl (and Richard Hell recommends watching Sid And Nancy if you’re really in the mood for what he considers an “actually quite good non-documentary movie about ‘punk'”). But the star power behind this show is undeniable: in addition to Cannavale, the cast features Olivia Wilde, Ray Romano, and James Jagger. The producing team also has some real big shots. You know Terence Winter as the mind behind The Wolf Of Wall Street and Boardwalk Empire, Rich Cohen from Rolling Stone magazine, Mick Jagger from the actual Rolling Stones, and Martin Scorsese from, well, everything.
The complete Vinyl Season 1 is out on Amazon for Blu-ray and DVD this Tuesday, June 7th.
