Oddisee – “Brea” Video (Stereogum Premiere)
Brooklyn-based producer Oddissee has been on a prolific tear lately. He dropped the excellent Al Wasta EP less than two months before his proper instrumental full-length The Odd Tape. Both projects were dope in their own right despite being quite disparate. Still going off the momentum from both of those releases, he follows up with a video for The Odd Tape standout “Brea.” The track is some smooth boom-bap incorporating dashes of jazz horns, gospel organ, and classical flourishes for an understated prettiness. The Ryan Calavano-directed clip highlights that beauty by juxtaposing the movements of what is presumed to be to a homeless man with a black swan ballerina. The two dance through the streets of LA playing off of each other’s fluid moves. Calvano says the black-and-white visuals are “a tribute to the unseen soul.” Check it out.
