Communions – “Don’t Hold Anything Back”
Communions were one of our Best New Bands of 2015, and it’s looking like the Copenhagen outfit will end up one of the best continuing bands of 2016. Last year’s self-titled EP highlighted their knack for pulsing guitar-pop that sparkled through an icy sheen, like a supernova cradled within a glacier. They recently signed to Fat Possum, and today are sharing the single “Don’t Hold Anything Back” from an upcoming 7″ out this fall. The song finds their frozen exterior thawed and that burning inner core completely exposed. Communions have never sounded so up-front, shedding reverb and sharp guitars for bold handclaps and summery rhythms.
“Don’t Hold Anything Back” is built for inclusion on personally-crafted playlists (or what would have been the last generation’s cassette mixtapes), and for sneaking through the speakers during an early afternoon drive with a romantic interest to set the tone for the direction you want the day to head in. It captures that same sonic glint that made their best songs perfect for putting on loop and getting lost in a daydream. This time their energy is just a little less restrained — they didn’t hold anything back. Listen below.
