Kite Base – “Something I Can Never Have” (Nine Inch Nails Cover) Video
Kite Base is the side project from Savages bassist Ay?e Hassan along with fellow bassist Kendra Frost. If you’re wondering what Kite Base means, here’s an explanation:
“Kite Base” is one of the main starting points found in origami, an opening move made with simple folds to generate a firm and fertile foundation for creativity. It can become whatever you want it to be — simple or complex — based on the imagination of the creator, inspiration and chance.
That’s a pretty cool band name, and it fits their minimal style as they layer electronic soundscapes with pop craft and ambient noise. They’ve been quiet since dropping two good singles last year, “Dadum” and “Miracle Waves,” but now they’re back with a layered rework of Nine Inch Nails’ “Something I Can Never Have.” They infuse the original with sustained synths, electric bass, and harmonized chants. The video is a dimlit affair with the duo performing the song along with a trio of background singers in front a projector screen with entrancing fractal patterns. Watch a video for the cover below.
Kite Base are prepping their full-length debut for early 2017.
