Ronnie James Dio is the latest star to be resurrected in hologram form. The metal icon passed away in 2010, but his new virtual avatar made a surprise appearance at Germany's Wacken Open Air festival last night alongside the Dio Disciples, a tribute group featuring Dio's former bandmates. They closed out the event by performing "We Rock," with the Dio hologram, created by Ellusion, on lead vocals. "When I first experienced the full production of Ronnie performing with his band as a hologram, I couldn't believe my eyes and ears," Wendy Dio, the late musician's wife and manager of the Dio Disciples, said in a statement. "We have been able to get Ronnie back up on stage where he belongs, ensuring that his music and memory live on." A world tour featuring the hologram is being planned for next year.
